How to clean your lava stone table
Practicality and speed

When you have to choose the furniture for your home, when you think about the furniture you would like to see in the spaces of your home, do you ever wonder what maintenance they will need once they become part of your daily life? Basically, have you ever wondered, before buying them, how to clean the furniture you would like to have?
The cleaning of the furniture is not a detail to be underestimated at all: the pleasantness, but also the duration and quality of the furniture itself, depend on it.

Today we want to talk about the cleaning of a piece of furniture we care a lot about: the table.

The table, we must admit, can have a quite hard life: on the table you eat, prepare dishes, work, study, play. If it stands outside it must also stand all the attacks coming from nature, from the scorching sun in summer to freezing temperatures in winter, not to mention the possible contribution of animals - as birds droppings.
It is understood that thorough and careful cleaning is a fundamental operation to keep the table not only clean and hygienically safe, but also intact in its beauty and intrinsic quality as it came out of the manufacturer's warehouse.
But now let's go into detail and talk about cleaning the various types of tables.

Cleaning a wooden table

There are many products on the market dedicated to cleaning wood, which certainly do their duty. But if we want to dedicate a more delicate, respectful and ecological and equally effective cleaning to our wooden table, we can use various natural detergents or at least with a composition that is as simple as possible.

• Vinegar has a sanitizing and degreasing action, also excellent on stubborn dirt. To clean the table, just prepare a solution of water and vinegar in equal parts, dip a cloth in it, squeeze it well and wipe it over the entire surface of the table; after that, dry with a soft cloth.

• Marseille soap is the ideal solution for stubborn stains, such as marker marks left by children. Just rub the soap on the stain, leave for a few hours, then rinse with warm water and a soft cloth, without rubbing.

• Dish soap is suitable for dissolving food stains from wooden surfaces. Given the foam it could produce, it must be rinsed very carefully.

• To clean outdoor wooden tables, that have been stained by birds, you need an antibacterial solution, which you can prepare following this "recipe": 500 ml of distilled water + 25 drops of tea tree essential oil and 25 drops of lavender essential oil.
Absolutely avoid hydrogen peroxide - it can whiten the wood -, ammonia - it can darken it or it can remove the paint -, caustic soda - highly corrosive - and even alcohol should be used with great caution.

Cleaning a melamine table

Melamine wood is a material obtained by pressing together elements derived from wood processing, such as wood shavings and fibers, then coated with a thin sheet of melamine resin. It is an inexpensive and versatile substitute for wood, also much easier to clean: just use a common neutral soap and a sponge; it is important, however, to avoid ammonia and alcohol-based products, which can make the surface opaque.

Cleaning a natural stone table

Clean a natural stone table top, for example marble, with a neutral soap: pass a soft sponge soaked in soap and water on the surface, rinse well with a damp cloth and, for a perfect and luminous effect, one last wipe with a slightly moistened chamois cloth. In case of particularly stubborn dirt, you can sprinkle the table top with bicarbonate before wiping with the soapy sponge.

Cleaning a table with a glass top

Glass may not be difficult to clean, but it requires continuous and constant care - just touch it to leave unsightly fingerprints.
To avoid unsightly halos, here is our natural DIY detergent: mix water and vinegar in equal parts, add a few drops of lemon; in case of more difficult dirt, add a part of alcohol.

Cleaning a plastic or resin outdoor table

Even in this case, cleaning is not very difficult: water and soap for dishes are enough, which have a very strong cleaning effect.
The problem is when the structure of the table is in woven resin: to reach every space between the the weaves you must first remove the dust very carefully, in order to remove even the most hidden dirt.
In case of stubborn stains on the plastic, alcohol can be used: dip a sponge in a solution of hot water and alcohol and wipe it on the table for a guaranteed result.
If the table is made of white plastic and the dirt and stains have darkened it, you can also use the whitening effect of hydrogen peroxide or bleach - diluted in water - to be passed on the table after the usual cleaning.

Cleaning a Ficola ceramic lava stone table

Cleaning Ficola tables can be summed up in just two words: practicality and speed.

The ceramic lava stone is a waterproof and non-porous surface, so it does not stain and it is easy to remove any trace of dirt from it, whether solid, liquid, dry or greasy. Any soft cloth or sponge and water is really enough to clean the table top. Obviously, to degrease and sanitize you need a detergent - we recommend a neutral detergent.

A last recommendation: do not use detergents or tools with an abrasive action that could damage the surface of the table, because they are almost useless, since the ceramic surface is perfectly smooth, uniform and non-porous, so the dirt comes off very easily.
